Sending Messages in Safari

What?

When you send a message in SpeedAdmin Play!, the message editor opens in a new browser window. Safari treats any window a website opens on its own as a pop-up, and blocks it by default — usually without any clear warning that it has done so.

Why?

This isn't a fault in SpeedAdmin Play!; it's a Safari setting. Other browsers, like Chrome and Edge, are generally more visible about blocked pop-ups, which is why this issue tends to show up specifically for Safari users.

How?

The easiest way to avoid this error is to use SpeedAdmin in a different browser, such as Chrome or Firefox. If you would like to continue on Safari, you can change the settings to avoid missing these notofications.

Step 1: Allow pop-ups permanently for SpeedAdmin Play!

  1. Open Safari and go to the SpeedAdmin Play! address you use to log in.
  2. Choose Safari > Settings from the URL bar, then click Websites.
  3. Click Pop-up Windows in the left-hand list (scroll down if you don't see it right away).
  4. Find your SpeedAdmin Play! address in the list and set it to Allow.

Safari will now remember this setting, so the message window can open without being blocked.

Step 2: On iPhone or iPad

Safari on iOS and iPadOS doesn't offer a per-website setting — pop-ups are either allowed or blocked for all sites:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Scroll down and tap Safari.
  3. Turn off Block Pop-ups.

Step 3: Try sending the message again

Go back to SpeedAdmin Play!, click "Send message" once more. The message window should now open as expected.
