What
This guide describes how to open links to guides in Play! when a link from an email opens in a different web browser than the one you normally use.
This can happen, for example, if you work in Play! using Google Chrome while links from email automatically open in Microsoft Edge.
Why
If you work in Play! in one browser and a link from an email opens in another browser, you may be redirected to the sign-in page because your login session is not shared between different browsers.
The easiest way to avoid this issue is to use Play! in the same browser that your organisation has selected as the default browser, or ask your IT department to change the default browser so that links open in the same browser you use for Play!.
If that is not possible, you can use one of the solutions below.
How
Option A: Sign in to SpeedAdmin in the browser that opens the links
If links from email always open in Microsoft Edge, you can sign in to SpeedAdmin there. Future links can then use your existing login session in Edge.
Step 1: Open Microsoft Edge.
Step 2: Go to Play! or open a link to SpeedAdmin in Microsoft Edge.
Step 3: Sign in using your usual credentials.
Step 4: Choose to stay signed in if the option is available.
Step 5: If Microsoft Edge asks whether you want to save your password, click "Save".
Step 6: The next time you open a link from an email, the page should normally open without requiring you to sign in again.
Option B: Open the link in the same browser you use for Play!
Some email applications or organisations allow you to choose which browser is used when opening a link.
Step 1: Right-click the link in the email message.
Step 2: Select "Open link in..." or a similar option if available.
Step 3: Select the same browser you use for Play!, for example Google Chrome.
Step 4: The guide opens in the browser where you are already signed in.
Option C: Copy the link into the browser where you are already signed in
If the link opens in a different browser than the one you use for Play!, you can manually open the link in the correct browser.
Step 1: Open Play! in the browser you normally use.
Step 2: Right-click the link in the email message and select "Copy link address".
Step 3: Paste the link into the address bar of the same browser where Play! is already open.
Step 4: Press Enter to open the guide.
Additional option
The easiest way to avoid this issue is to use the same browser for both Play! and links from email.
If links from email automatically open in Microsoft Edge, for example, you can choose to use Play! in Edge as well. This allows you to use the same sign-in session when working in Play! and when opening links from email, reducing the risk of being redirected to the sign-in page.
If your organisation allows it, you can also contact your IT department and ask whether it is possible to:
- Change the default browser on your computer.
- Set the browser you use for Play! as the default browser.
- Adjust the organization's settings so that links open in the same browser you use for work.
Information
Default browser
The browser that is automatically used when you click a link in an email message.
Sign-in session
The active sign-in that allows you to use Play! without having to sign in again.
Things to be aware of
- Sign-ins are normally not shared between different browsers.
- The saved password feature may be restricted by your organisation's security policy.
- The option to choose a browser by right-clicking is not available in all email applications.
- The "Copy link address" method usually works even when links open in the wrong browser.
- If you use Play! in your organisation's default browser, you will often avoid the issue entirely.
- If you are still redirected to the sign-in page after signing in to both browsers, you should contact your local IT support team.
